New Year’s EVOLUTION
January 10, 2006
Mr. Anderson won the small
crowd of the Anderson Tabernacle early, promising them a
night to remember. Dropping a bombshell, Anderson
informed the crowd that the brackets for the World
Heavyweight title tournament will have a strange twist.
Tiger Claw, former 3-time world champion, would receive
a first round bye and would face the winner of the Max
Roach/Redline match in none other than a steel cage
match in tonight’s main event.
The first match of the night
kicked off with a bang. Rich Morrison took on Fire
Storm for the X Championship in a thrilling match.
Morrison targeted Fire Storm’s right ankle early on,
seeming taking Fire Storm’s power from him. The big
beast battled back, using various power moves to weaken
Morrison. Going for the quick win, Fire Storm went for
the Storm Breaker. Morrison countered, forcing the big
man into the corner and knocking the ref to the floor.
Taking the advantage, Morrison went on the offensive
delivering a series of punches and kicks and ending with
a top rope flying elbow. Going for the cover, Morrison
could not find the ref in insight. This gave Fire Storm
enough time to gain his second wind. Distracted by the
ref on the outside ropes, Fire Storm nailed Morrison
with a running clothesline, knocking both men outside
the ring. Struggling to their feet, both men exchanged
a series of punches with Fire Storm gaining the
advantage over smaller Morrison, nailing him with a
powerbomb on the ring steps. The ref, now back in the
ring began the count out. Fire Storm now fresh, rolled
the prone Morrison into the ring and planted him with
the Storm Breaker and gained the pin fall.
Abram Gunner gained a huge
win over Drake Powers, rolling him up with a handful of
tights. AWA reporter Anastasia caught up with Gunner
after the match. Gunner told the crowd that tonight was
just a taste of what he had in store for the AWA and
Powers was just a stepping stone to his true goal, the
World Heavyweight Championship.
Matt Nitro returned to
action facing Jared Peterson in what proved to be a
quick and decisive match. Dominating the entire match,
Nitro gained the pin fall at an astonishing 58 seconds;
a new AWA match record.
Mr. Anderson once again
addressed the crowd, stating he had another surprise up
his sleeve. He announced that not only would the World
title match be decided in a Steel Cage match, but the
winner would face a “hand picked” competitor of his
choosing new week on Surge. The sound of bagpipes hit
the sound system as Rick Thunder made his way to ring
side, briefcase in hand and a kilt around his waist. He
told Mr. Anderson that in his briefcase was a contract
that guaranteed him a shot at the World Title next week
on Surge. Anderson laughed until Madison Justice made
her way to the ring. She told the Anderson that she set
up the contract and he signed it.
The other Gunner, James
Gunner, was in action against “The Human Torch” Nicholas
Summers. Summers made short work of Gunner, finishing
him off with the Final Testament to seal the victory.
In the first of two matches
to decide the World Heavyweight Champion, Max Roach
faced Redline. Roach started the match on the
offensive, whittling Redline down with a series of quick
moves. Redline, down but not out, powered out of a
quick pin, rolling Roach up with a reversal. Only
gaining a two count, Redline lost his patience with
senior referee Mark Driver. Roach seizing the
opportunity connected with the Roach motel and the three
count. Anderson wasted little time, ordering the cage
to be lowered from ringside.
Tiger Claw quickly made his
way to the ring as the stage crew fastened the cage in
place. Checking the chains himself, Tiger Claw made
sure the door would stay closed. Tiger Claw wasted
little time, hitting an already prone Roach with a leg
drop. First to climb the cage, Tiger Claw scaled the
massive blue steel tubing structure only to b meet with
a jumping forearm from Roach. Taking the offensive,
Roach worked Tiger Claw into the corner. Up the cage
Roach went, only to be ripped to the mat by Tiger Claw.
Both men went toe to toe in the center of the ring,
exchanging rights and lefts. Roach, wiping Tiger Claw
into the ropes, went for the Roach Motel only to have it
reversed by TC into a sleeper hold. Down, TC left the
unconscious Roach in the center of the ring and began
his accent into greatness. Grasping at the last portion
of the cage, TC was struck down with a desperate move by
Roach. Both men tumbled to the mat. Thunder, making
his way to the ring with a pair of bolt cutters and his
briefcase, opened the cage door and began to pull Roach
out of the ring. Not to be outwitted by a youngster,
Mr. Anderson entered the ring and nailed Thunder with
the World Heavyweight title. Anderson removed Thunder
and placed a new lock on the cage.
Battered and bruised, both
men made their way to the side of the cage and began to
ascend. Making their way to the top, both men exchanged
blows on the narrow ledge of the cage. Both men, losing
their balance, crashed to the floor, both hitting at the
same time. The ref called for the bell as Anderson
raised Roach’s hand in victory. It as short lived as
Driver raised Tiger Claw’s arm in victory. Both
claiming victory, both Roach and Tiger Claw grabbed for
the title, resulting in a tug-of-war. Madison Justice
again made her way to the ring, claiming she knew the
true winner. With a dramatic pause, Madison raised
Roach’s hand in victory, claiming to have video proof
that Roach’s foot hitting the floor first. A replay was
shown on AWA Big Screen in slow motion showing both men
hitting the floor at the exact same moment. Madison
argued that Roach’s foot hit a millisecond before TC’s
resulting in a victory for Roach. Roach ripped the
title from TC’s hand as TC argued with Anderson and the
show went off the air…
